In an effort to keep myself busy I’ve decided to pick one film a week to share with you all. These films will be travel-related and some of them are my absolute favourites. To begin this weekly tradition, I thought I’d highlight a little Canadian gem: One Week, starring Joshua Jackson.
Without giving too much of the storyline away, here’s a brief synopsis: a twenty-something Torontonian gets a fatal diagnosis, sporadically buys a motorcycle, and drives across Canada.
It’s been a few years since I first watched this movie, and I really did forget how much I loved it. Then I realized One Week was the original source of inspiration for #16 on my Travel Bucket List.
Its soundtrack is full of Canadian artists, its imagery full of iconic Canadian settings, and then there’s Gord Downie giving Joshua’s character some mighty good advice while rolling something of the herbal type.
This movie makes you smile, makes you tear up, makes you appreciate how truly beautiful Canada is. It’s witty and charming and makes you question: “What’s the minimum in life?”
Watch it, you won’t regret it.
